| SALEM — In November, the Virginia Department of Transportation will hold three meetings to share information about the Route 220 Preservation and Improvement Plan and to receive input. The meetings will be held at follows:Thursday, November 7, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Clearbrook Elementary School located at 5205 Franklin Road in Roanoke Wednesday, November 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the Essig Recreation Center located at 295 Technology Drive in Rocky Mount Thursday, November 14, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Henry County Administration Building located at 3300 Kings Mountain Road in Martinsville The purpose of the study is to help localities and VDOT to identify strategies to preserve capacity, enhance safety and support future growth along the Route 220 corridor between the North Carolina state line and Route 419 in Roanoke. Preliminary design concepts to enhance mainline traffic flow and improve safety include restricting median crossovers and minor intersection turning movements and improving traffic signal operations along the Route 220 corridor. Citizens will be able to speak with study team representatives at the meetings. The meetings will be held in an “open house” format with a formal presentation given approximately 30 minutes after the start of each meeting. The same information will be presented at each meeting for the entire Route 220 corridor. Written comments will be accepted at the meeting or can be submitted by November 29, 2019, to Michael Gray, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153.
